almond-beach-hotel, Barbados, CaribbeanFOR THE SEVENTH YEAR, Almond Beach Resort is raising awareness of the environment to the wider community.

Yesterday the resort hosted an environmental exhibition under the theme Living Sustainably Is Living Responsibly.

Among the areas examined were erosion and accretion of beaches in St Peter, organic fruits and vegetables, hand-made greeting cards, and environmental friendly products.

The 12 booths on display were from the Barbados Environmental Youth Programme; Ocean Park, the Solid Waste Project; the Barbados Sea Turtle Project of the Department of Biological and Chemical Sciences, University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus; National Petroleum; Ionics Freshwater, Atlantis Adventures Barbados; the Barbados Water Authority; Master's Touch Environmental Services and Supplies; and the Organic Growers and Consumers Organisation.

A special aspect of the exhibition was coal pot cooking by head chef at Enid's Restaurant, Sophia Beckles, as a method of offering Caribbean cuisine while conserving energy.

Coordinator Gaynelle Francis said the event highlighted the ways of protecting the environment and saving money by using locally grown and produced products. (WB)
